SpermVital on buffalo
In the first week of December, SpermVital produced SV doses on buffalo for the first time. This was done in collaboration with the Italian company GB Genetics, a company owned by Giovanni Binotti. For those of us who have never seen buffalo before, this was an interesting experience. The animals appeared very calm and had to be warmed up for a long time before they were willing to ride. The sperm was very similar to regular bull semen, but the individual variation in sperm quality was large. Sex sorting of sperm is also used on buffalo semen, and here we also saw large variations in which individuals were sorted and which were not. Some of the most famous and sought-after buffalo were harvested the week SpermVital had test production, and it was cool to see them in action. The next step is now to test the doses in the field and compare the results against conventional semen and possibly optimize the product for buffalo. It will be exciting to see the results of this work. If we are successful, buffalo could become an important market for SpermVital in the future.
