SpermVital semen shows clear benefits in Austria
An article published in the magazine Flechvieh Austria in 2020 presented results from a master's thesis done for Genostar.
The authors had compared fertilization data from 2015-2019 from herds where SpermVital was used and could show that SpermVital semen gave better pregnancy rates than ordinary semen doses. On heifers, SpermVital gave 6 percentage points higher non-circulation and on cows 4.4 percentage points higher IO on average. The difference between the two sperm types increased with the number of circulations, so that SpermVital semen gave, relatively speaking, a greater advantage on typical problem cows. SpermVital's R&D manager, Marja Mikkola, says that a possible explanation may be that some problem cows have weak signs of heat and that the time of high heat can therefore be difficult to determine. Another explanation may be that there is a discrepancy between the actual time of ovulation and the heat symptoms.
When the calvings were also examined, SpermVital showed a clear advantage. The material showed that in reinseminated cows, 37.8% of the inseminations were done with SpermVital semen, but 47.1% of the calves came from SpermVital semen.
